I know what you are thinking “another cause”! There are indeed lots of causes that you can choose to support, or not, depending on your personal convictions and your own choices. Mindful in May recently grabbed my attention because it combines both the benefits of mindfulness meditation with an opportunity to contribute to an important global cause: help build clean water wells in the developing world. What a great concept! If there is a thing we don’t realise on a daily basis, it is how lucky we are to have access to clean water. Have you ever been camping without a source of water nearby, let alone clean? You do survive but you’d probably feel frustrated… frustrated about not being able to make a nice cuppa on the camp fire, not being able to have a wash after a hot sweaty day, worse, not being to quench your thirst. My friend Nath who lives in New Zealand in a remote area relies on a water tank for all her water supplies. At some point last year, the rain has been long waited for by the locals and she was telling me that exact same thing, that we don’t realise how precious water is, we take it for granted, but now Nath calls it “luxury”. So not only the cause Mindful in May supports is a great one, but it brings both beginners and more experienced meditators the benefits of meditation whilst improving the lives of others. Dr Elise Bialylew (creator of this month-long event) says “Suspend judgement, give it a go and see what you can discover for yourself”. It is all online, it is a 10 minute a day (only!) global meditation challenge that starts on MAY 1st and helps to bring clean, safe water to the 1 in 6 people who live without access to it. Funds raised go to CharityWater.org. You can register now and get your friends and family to sponsor your challenge. You can also join Mindful in May on Facebook or Twitter and be part of the mindful ripple… read more & HAPPY meditation!! :-)
