Now fully “re-wired” I would like to wish you a happy healthy sparkly…. beyoutiful new year! (“Bonne Année” in French) :-)

Bonne année

I trust everyone is enjoying Summer and had a fantastic and relaxing festive season, and whether you are still enjoying a little extra time off or back in business, it is now 2013… quite a number isn’t it?! Well at least for me, child of the 70’s ;-) Every new year tends to pair off with one or a few new resolutions, although not always formally expressed, I am pretty sure all of us have thought of them at least once since waking up on Tuesday the 1st of January. It is a great feeling to start a new year, it gives us an opportunity to make a fresh new start of whatever has not gone so well last year and/or to open up a new chapter in whatever we have already started. The problem with new years resolutions is that they are never a long lasting experience, have a think of how many of yours have actually come to fruition? Yoga offers a different approach to new years resolutions, in Yoga terms we talk about “Sankalpa” which translates as intention or positive statement. A Sankalpa comes from a deeper place of our inner Self, it is more meaningful. I like using a Sankalpa in my Yoga practice and in my classes, a Sankalpa brings a focus to the mind during the physical practice, it gives something to come back to when distractions come into play and it helps integrate the practice of Yoga into our daily life more easily. One of my teacher Janet Lowndes has written a beautiful post on how we can establish and use a New Year’s Sankalpa instead of the common new years resolutions in order to guide us through life; and it couldn’t have been better written! Enjoy Janet’s post & happy reflection on your Sankalpa, you will never approach new years resolutions the same way… ;-)
